My husband jokes that I “ruin” things in a loving, joking way between husband and wife. Lately, he’s been joking that I shouldn’t experiment in the kitchen when cooking since it’s resulted in a few inedible meals.
I’m cooking some spaghetti Bolognese for dinner when my husband gets home. I tell him I’m adding in a few fillers to make the mince go further and just adding what we have in the fridge to save money. My husband looks at me with a joking smirk and laughs.
Husband: “Well, you can’t make bad Bolognese. You can do it right, but you can’t make it wrong. Surely you can’t ruin it.”
I laughed with him, kept cooking, shooed the kids away from the kitchen since there was boiling water on the stove, and then rushed to keep cooking.
I was finishing up the completed meal and picked up the spatula to give it a final stir, and as I put it into the food, I saw a cockroach sitting on the utensil and falling into the food! We live quite clean and have the house pest sprayed, but we live close to some local shops that are quite dirty (we never shop there) and as a result can never seem to be free of them. But I’ve never seen one come out in the light onto my cooking before!
I stood there in shock for a moment and called my husband back, who was equally as disappointed with the loss of our dinner.
I still maintain it was the cockroach that ruined it, not me.
