Spotter’s Instincts

I’m wiping down a machine when my boyfriend strolls over with a grin. When he has that grin, I know he’s going to do “a bit”.

Boyfriend: “You look nice in those leggings. Can I take you out sometime?”

I roll my eyes, catching on to his bit instantly.

Me: “Sorry, I have a boyfriend.”

Boyfriend: *With a wink.* “Yeah, but I bet you can do better.”

Before I can answer, a girl I’ve never seen before walks straight up to me.

Girl: “Hey, you ready to leave?”

I blink, surprised. She’s staring at me intently. Penny drops. She’s rescuing me.

Me: “Oh… uh, he’s my boyfriend.”

Girl: *All smiles.* “Oh! Okay, just checking.”

Me: “Girl, I appreciate you.”

She flashes me a quick smile before heading off, and I turn to my boyfriend.

Me: “Next time you pull that stunt, I’m not clarifying.”
